great work joe, some feedback brother:

floor is too reflective. play with the glossines, carpet is flying, sofas are out of scale, maybe lower the book shelve cause some books will be unreacheable, i like the design.

i think a background would also help. just your render with a png format and set some nice exterior picture behind the render.

Re: My First Render: Living Room (Help me improve..!)

hey thanks Teo bro... I'm on it... will post an updated render as soon as m done...
The Carpet was flying indeed (really stupid of me) have corrected that...

And thanks Omar (tevez) will try and put somethin outside the window... though i think the camera angle is such that sky dominates outside d window...

another thing is i want to add some sort of glassy reflection on the foto frame... but wen i add the glass layer the picture behind it seems a lil too blurry... any tips on how to correct that...

will post an update soon... and plz keep giving feedback ppl..!!

        thanks regards...

Re: My First Render: Living Room (Help me improve..!)

Guys i've posted a slightly updated render... i see quite a few things that i feel take away from the photorealism...

for one reducing the reflectivity has caused grains to appear on the flooring material... the scale of the leather on sofas doesnt seem right...

i feel the room is too dimly lit... have set the shutter speed to 50. F no. to 12 and ISO to 200. primary engine is irradiance map and secondary is light cache.. and the multiplier in either case is set to one... i'm experimenting as to wat needs to be done to brighten and make the image more clear and less pixellated... any help is always welcome...

          regards...

Re: My First Render: Living Room (Help me improve..!)

oh, for the reflection just add another layer, and for the blurry thing, just increase the reflection multiplier. that will also reduce the grainy effect.
another thing is that i think you need a little more ilumination so you can show more the details...
have you seen the last fernando's tutorial?... it's about phisical camera with the vray sun...
i hope this helps... by the way, it's Omar (Estévez) :P

Thanku Estevez... umm where exactly is the reflection multiplier...? and wat value should i be taking... and add a reflection layer to the image or add a glass material in front of the image... and then add reflection and increase multiplier..? i've tried and illuminated the scene a lil more by adding a vray rectangular light at the far end...
i've added an image outside the windows too...

i'm not really happy wid d way the metal materials have come up... especially in the barcelona chair, and the leather and wood texture too seem a little umm dunno off...

              Please some help required...!!

and Estevez could u plz send the link to the physical camera and vray sun tutorial u were telling about...

              thanks...

yeah, you need to change that background... i know i said that i would have used a background, but you have to look for the right one... look for some nice sky, maybe some landscape than can be seen from the lower windows...
for the barcelona chair i usually use the alluminium shiny... from the presets...
the reflection multiplier is in the reflection layer rollout in the material edtior :P

i'm using aluminium shiny too... tried using stainless steel shiny too but the barcelona chair is rendering flat... will post an updated render soon... the image will change... in d final render.. i think havin other settings right will be top priority... will search for a better image in d meanwhile...

are u referring to the no beside reflection that by default is set to 1 in the reflection layer... i'm sorry but i cant find it...

and thanks for the feedback estevez...!! keep em coming...

Re: My First Render: Living Room (Help me improve..!)

                      Hey, good start

The first thing I notice in this scene is that the lightning is quite flat, you could improve some by ticking the "Ambient Occlusion" in options 'Indirect Illumination' tab
Maybe try to add some artificial lights, spots/lamps whatever you think that fits best.

Also the Barcelona Chair metal is chrome if I'm not mistaken.

Also higher the GI color parameter, this is under the "Environment" tab, I usually give this a more warmer tint than the standard cold blue.

Hope this might help you, cheers!

one thing i also do a lot, for quick renders, instead of using AO, is adding a couple of layers in photoshop, one of them i paint it with blue and the other one with orange, and i play with the blending modes... for the blue, if you use photoshop, you could use... "subexponer color" (damn photoshop is in spanish) that'll add some contrast to the edges and for the orange look for something that brighten your scene.

                          Hi Joe Average,
The barcelona chair isn't looking shiny because it reflects only a white/grey wall. also the material should be chrome, not aluminium.

Also I would suggest you choose an existing image of a house and imitate it. There are lot's of sites that has good architecture photos and even plan drawings.
