    hi capitano
i think you will feel better if you import 2d people directly in sketchup... that way the images will be affected by vray's illumination...
wood is looking great, but, don't you think it's kind of big?
    i like the painting

Thanks for the comment! Yes i agree with importing the 2d person straight into sketchup, it'd definitely improve a few things! I think the wood size is okay though, each board is only 160mm wide, i googled it and oak planks are sold up to even 200mm

Re: First render! opinions, comments and advice please

          hello,

          nice render so far....
i would say that the comment about the width of the boards is valid... its the ratio of width to length that makes it look odd. of course widths of boards can be wider but the planks would be longer. stretch the texture length-ways to correct this. carrying on with the wood theme... its too reflective, subtly is everything with renders.

          painting looks great.

outside the window looks out of perspective and is way over exposed. export the render as a png and use PS to add a background and adjust the lighting to match

texturing on the edge of the chair is wrong... the grain should follow the bend in the chair.

last comment is the hanging lights.... they look odd, like there transparent and flat??? are they a png of some sort opposed to geometry? now i look back at the image again is the curtain again an image rather then geometry?

sort these little points out, and your nearly there with a great render. repost, im keen to see how you get on

          kind regards

Thankyou very much for the helpful comments guys!
I've made changes to the errors pointed out and feel that its a big improvement! Are there any other things that i've missed this time in order to improve further?

All the geometry is 3d except for the guy, but because of poor pp/materials that i did last time it looked like 2d things heh.

Re: Updated First render! opinions, comments and advice please

Very good improvement. But for me this room isn't cosy. And there is a reason. It looks like there is big window on the back of image, because light comes from there. The image will be more realistic when you will make light coming from visible window. Thats just my minds, don't take this deeply.

In all, render looks very realistic

Very well done, love the wood texture of the chair and table... and the painting. I would lose the guy. not meant to be there at least for me.

arq: you should buy a wig now to be prepared ;D

edenux: Thanks for the comment but the dinning room is part of a big open plan house, and because of the view (new one) i think it makes sense to have big windows, for this reason, my small updated image is the same but with bigger windows

james: i need to have people in my renders to show proportions and such, and that was one of the better/relevant 2d people i could find :P

here is a the last render, and with this one i think i'll leave it here as i don't know what else to work on! thanks for the helpful comments guys!

it looks much better with the guy leaned against the glass window than the wall. well done.
