  • a try at carpaint

Since I'm doing mainly secret competition visuals lately (long hours), I thought I'd do something else for a change. Let's try carpaint materials and stuff. So I bought this car as a 3ds and tried to make it work in a build environment. GI lighting is HDRI but the reflection of the sky is a regular bitmap.

Nice start... as others have suggested, I'd recomend playing with the shadows a bit - they are all far too sharp - even for the sun. Also, there seems to be something funny going on with the rims - looks like they are just a blurry texture rather than geometry. Perhaps you could add some modeled detail here?

i agree with all of the above, the car paint is looking more like chrome than paint at its current state. try to get a lil of that grain/blur to the paint so that it looks a bit more naturalish.

Looks great....but perhaps you could try a fresnel reflection....set the whiteness value to something like 126...the default IOR of 1.6 should suffice....just a suggestion
