  • Ford Gt-40 Material Test

Okay just a quick test scene for my latest car paint, prior to a long car chase scene that im making at the moment, just looking for some comments/crits. Model isnt mine, all the materials have been redone in vray mats.

So far this is what ive got for a car paint, this is pretty much the quick setup version one i was using of a rather large standard material, its a much simpler, albeit not as good looking, but faster vray mat.

    Standard Paint (No metal flakes)

    Flyround avi: http://www.global.net.au/~jonesy/fordgt-spin.avi (1.7mb Xvid)

Metallic Flaked Paint (Shellac of 2 vray mats)

    Edit : Flyround avi: http://www.global.net.au/~jonesy/for...allic-spin.avi (1.9mb Xvid)

The flyround of that will be up when its complete.
There is a slight variation between the 2 pictures in terms of things other then the car paint, but its pretty much limited to the change in the colour of the infinute plane, and some antialiasing propeties.
Obviously the shellac is slower, but it made about a minute a frame difference on my Athlon 2400+ 1gb Sdram

looks really good - especially the fron, but the back reflections are kinda weird - seems almost as if the back got bashed in or something - as if the metal curvature is not very smooth - also some odd relfections in the back winshield as well......

    overall looks really good, though......

Ok so far this is what i progressed to, colour change, and altered the clear coats reflection a fair bit.

        Better or worse? Crits welcome.

            @jujubee:

in fact it's simple, got these settings from dusan, a forum mate here

I used a blend material of 2 vraymats
one 100% reflection with lots of glossy
the other one 25% relfection black material, no glossy
and last but not least: a falloff map for the masking

be sure to tag "use interpolation" and set reflection depth to 1 in the first material to keep rendertimes acceptable
