This was a test image done for a pitch for a cellular phone account. They opted to go with photography for this round, too bad

Modeling by Rowan Simpson, lighting/materials/rendering/post by me. Original renderings were around 6K each. I made very heavy use of RT for lighting these images, although I did composite a number of lighting passes in post as well. This is the kind of stuff that RT is *perfect* for. Don't know how I could work without it now.

C&C would be most welcome - seriously

were you eperimenting a lot with the lighting setup, perhaps looking at some studio reference, or do you have experience with photographing stuff like this?

There is always some experimentation with lighting setups, but I have a lot of experience working with photography, and with retouching phones (done a few campaigns).

Thanks The agency was pretty happy with the work we did on this, I think the end decision came down to the client's comfort level with photography - they are still a bit leery of CGI because they just haven't done that much of it yet. At least that is what they told us

Thanks man I am pretty sure Rowan built it in modo actually, but I'll have to ask him. Not sure what you mean by rig for RT- hardware? I am using RT in CPU mode only because the GPU version is still too limited for me, and I generally don't use the DR option much these days because of the long start up time entailed. It pretty much just runs on my workstation (i7 980x).
