Found a new 'lighting with HDR in VRay' tutorial over at CGSkies.com and wanted to try it out with one of Peter Guthrie's EXRs that I already have. Needed something to render so I came up with this model this afternoon.
Sure enough I was able to get nice, contrasty, crisp shadows directly from HDR lighting by fooling around with the gamma of the map used for lighting. Not sure if I have just overlooked this before or what, but it sure helps boost HDR lighting up a few more notches in my opinion.
Max 2012
VRay 1.5 SP6
Photoshop CS5.1 (slight tonemapping)
