- well if ur not in "liquid/fluid" world then its hard, its nothing comparing to realflow, different approach (node based)...
- for the prices u can check here http://www.exoticmatter.com/
- and for the krakatoa question, u can always render from max with krakatoa the naiad particles and merge all in post like i did
@super gnu
- well i dont know, coz i never had the chance to try phoenix (maya) coz its not out yet, but comparing to rf it kicks ass
We do a lot of high res stills work and have tested realflow for a few fluid sim type of shots but the quality/detail of the meshing is really not great for high res work.
How is NAIAD with this? Or is focused on large scale sims and not close up stuff?
Thx for comment, u can check some previous test i did using rf and as i wrote rf hybrido is bad, i had a discussion with rf people (http://vimeo.com/26794601) about the potential probl, but as an answer i was always getting some workarounds...
With naiad u can do a lot of things u can check my college and friend Igor (www.vimeo.com/igorzanic) videos, we did some movies together and he was, i could say, the 1st one who started with naiad (not considering big studios, MPC, Weta, etc...) while i was still using rf until i/we started to do big scale sims. and realize that we r doomed with rf.
(this is going to be a long one )
these r the rf big scale probl:
1. large files size (~10mil particles ~1gb file/frame)
2. hybrido simulation will look like crap if u dont have enough particles
3. not usable for dropping obj inside (ocean, river, etc...)
4. making preview (>40mil) forget it...
5. meshing, haha
a) takes a year or so to mesh big amount of particles (no multithreading) but u can use my multi-cpu script for meshing...
b) mesh looks like crap if u dont have enough polys, then we r going back to the a) thing
6. bugs, scale size, crashing etc...
Im not saying that naiad is perfect, a way far from that, but when u send a bug report to (rf) support and u dl a new ver and u see that bug still exist then what r we talking about then? why support exist at all? what r they doing, whats their job? a lots of WHY
Sounds like for big large scale fluid sims realflow using hybrido is not quite there yet.
For us we would be looking at more simple style sims, like a small water splash from a car wheel or fluid poured into glass. But not animated. So a high res close up still where you see every detail of the mesh.
Would you say realflow would still be better for these small scale sims? We have had issues with the detail quality when rendering these realflow meshes also the way the fluids form we do not think are quite good enough.
I think in animations for tv at lower res you can get away with it more. But a 9k closeup really shows the form and structure and all the meshing details.
well u can do nice things with rf, but for the 9k resolution im not sure, coz ur going to see every atom of the water
i know that everything sounds rough from rf side, but if u had time to read the conversation you will see what am talking about...
i dont know if u have fluid guys there or not but we can talk about cooperation in future for some projects or if u need help u can always contact me on PM
