  • Problem with vray lens effect

I'm using vray lens effects for the first time, I want my light sources to bloom & glare but I'm getting unusual results that I can't figure out. These two images show the lens effect turned on and off, both images were rendered using the same brute force settings. There are two obvious problems one is the fire fly's that are all over the scene, changing subdivision, bounces and noise seems to make difference in the size or number of these artifacts only turning it off makes a difference. Also adjusting the settings in the lens effects doesn't appear to make any difference either.

Another issue I'm having is when the lens effect is turned on everything in the scene gets blurry or gets bloomed out. When I adjust the settings to minimize this effect I can get some of it to go away but the bloom & glare effect is minimized to the point that I might as well not have it turned on.

I really need some advice on this as I've already spent so much time messing with it if I don't have enough time to try anything else.

    Thanks

For the fireflies, do you have the "Subpixel mapping" option in your color mapping settings turned on or off?

It's turned on, when I tried turning it off my render times sky rocketed.

Ok then, so it's because of that; the subpixel mapping suppresses the fireflies, but the lens effect needs to work with the actual colors in the image. Since the fireflies are typically caused by caustics, you could try to disable the "Refractive GI caustics" option and see if it helps.

Vlado I disabled Refractive GI caustics and that did reduce a lot of the fire fly's but there are still some present so I tried disabeling reflective caustics as well but it didn't make much of a difference. The first image is with GI caustics disabled, the second one is with it on.

Can you get me your scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com then so that I can check it out for myself?

            Best regards,

Vlado could the fire fly's be caused from using a lot of vray light materials?

this things happen in our works aswell, i think it is caused by the overbright blurry reflections. we havnt found a fix this , i hope vlado can come up with the solution.
if you find a bug...kill it.

An option like "vray lens effect for primary rays only" or something perhaps?

Arrrh this is happening to me too.
I'm finding its light sources behind Glass materials, the only way I can get it to work is to exclude the glass lights from the vray light.
                    Not a good work around.

                    cheers

For some reason I could not reproduce this problem with the new srervice pack. Will install the older version today.

It looks like it may have been due to the RPC stuff, at least without it everything looks ok. I have to install RPC to check with it...

There aren't any RPC's in the scene.

Hm, then why did I get a message about missing RPC Texmap from rpc.dlo?
