  • Procedural Mats WIP

This is the first of hopefully many Vray mats Im creating. Ill share them with the Vray community as I get some more done. These are all going to be created with procedurals only, no bitmaps.

Anyways heres the first. Typical red brick mat. I think its pretty done, but any helpful suggestions are of course welcome.

    A couple of views...

Looking for suggestions for any other mats people might want to see in the future.

    Percy,

Nice block. Id love to see an archiitectural mat. Brick, Block, Glass, Stones-slate, granite, marble......

I could go on for days with a wish list.

Are you waiting to share the block mat with a bunch of other materials? Will you share them individually?

    Thanks!

I thought that I would probably just incorporate them all into this scene. I envision an object for each mat like what is shown here with all the mats for each shown in the material editor. Probably 2 mats, 1 for the diffuse so to speak and 1 for the displace if any.

All good suggestions btw. Im working on some arch type of mats right now.

Heres another example: A reddish marble type mat:

just out of curiosity, how do the displace mats hold up on complicated shapes? I end up doing a lot of brick work around curves, then that dies into a straight wall, followed by another straight wall that heads of at a 45 degree angle. Whenever I've tried to apply displace maps, I always get a few walls that just don't work out quite right. Another one you might want to tackle is a stone wall - one with sharp stones that are stacked, not the river rock stuff.
Good luck - they look great so far.

everything including the displace mats are procedural so I dont see how they would be a prob like you mentioned. I had to increase the 3d face subdivisions to clean up the surface, you might want to look at that.

I have a couple instances of concrete brick mats that im working on, like I see on alot of buildings, but am not quite happy with them yet. If I get the time to work on them tonight Ill post some more for crits.
