  • tg4 - children of lir

    Heya Folks,

Here's a small station ident I did for an Irish language tv station. It's based on an irish mythology story called the "Children of Lir" where the children of a king were transformed into swans. The station itself likes to do slightly different takes on older stories so the connection between the two is slightly loose. I did most of the CG and comp, with the very talented Vadim Draempaehl animating the wings and the swans taking off. Shot on alexa, tracking was syntheyes with vray for rendering and nuke for compositing.

That looks awesome - nice work. The eyelash effect was particularly cool.

it's a very beautiful work. there are only a couple of things that caught my eye and seemed a bit off. at first I thought the swans floating on the water were a bit too static compared to the otherwise moving water, as if they weren't actually following the waves movements. and I think that maybe, as they start flying, a trail of drops of water might have added even more realism to the shot. or at least some interesting effect to play with..

Yeah I agree Rivoli, especially about the water trails. Time and budget bit me in the ass on that aspect of it and as someone with a single workstation and a laptop the processing power didn't allow it :/

Nice work considering time and processing power, but a couple of things catch my eyes too, the first plan seems weird in term of scale ratio and movement, but the thing that mostly catch my eyes was the swans as they take off, speed of movement and shape of the birds seem weird, look like every bird as the same shape over time, wing shape..kinda create a pattern over the background, but the eye lash and the wings are awesome.

Great stuff! The vignetting is little too strong for my taste although I don't know if you had any say in this

Yep, pretty tough grade on it alright. I think I'm going to do a second pass over it - I definitely wanted to add in the water spray from the takeoff for one thing, and the floaty swans in shot 1 could get fixed too.
