  • WIP:Urban Home_Prototype

This is a personal project, I'm designing some houses for urban lots in Minneapolis- St. Paul (40'x120')
and this is the first home.

1st pass with overcast HDRI, I'm testing materials, maps....I tried other setups like sunny days, with clouds, etc but I kind like the overcast lighting.

house and site were done in Sketchup....Mainly because it's my favorite design tool
there is a vertical line on the wood siding map, I found it after render the views out using Universal method, I'll fix it later
the coping looks flat, so I do need to put some bump in there too.

Grass with autograss and gravel is a displacement map with AO map that I found online

For now, It's ok....I'll keep working on these views and interiors.

C & C are welcome, I'm aware that they need a lot more work but It's good to have another eyes for critics

    Thanks,

    Fernando

The CG part is spot on, but I personally don't like some of the compositions chosen, the first and fourth are good but I don't think the others offer much. There is not enough foreground either IMO. Other than that this is very realistic and beautifully rendered.

Yes, you are right but these views are not for marketing....These are for meetings with general contractors, plus floor plans and sketchup model so they can understand the project well to get a good estimate (construction cost)... The views also help me out to take better decisions about the design.

These are nice and clear - good clean job!
I'd do a few orthographic renders too - they'd like that.

          Thanks reflix!
I'm working on materials and maps now.... I need more variation for the deck on the back (using offset and color correction of the same would work) as well as the fence.... That fence needs work, it looks too old for the house.
I also would like to set some views with different sky...I was lucky with the overcast HDRI, it didn't change the colors... These views are almost straight from max.... I only blur the background a bit since they are planes with a treeline map on them...because of the saturation I use vraylight mat for the treeline and I exclude them from GI

I would be more concerned about the environmental footprint of the houses more than how they look.
Such as are they energy efficient???
Is the design practical for living in??
Are the materials appropriate and long-life?? [hint-wood is not long life & I think you may have too much wood overall]

After spending the last 7 years rendering architectural dwellings I am shocked at how many architects overlook practicality & environmentally sustainability for looking stylish.
In a world of 7 billion people & growing, we cannot keep making the same environmental mistakes over & over again.

Sorry if this is not why you posted the renders, but I feel it's something very important to our children & grand- children's future.

            All the best
            Jamie

I could say the house has a geothermal system, It has reclaimed wood treated with resins to have long life and the design is well thought and very practical, but the 1st two could be optional, the third one is my point of view because I designed
I understand your point, and it's very important to be concern about it but the solution is very complex.....It's not enough what an organization saying you are green and you have to pay me for that....or I contaminate but I buy points in nowhere lands to get my certificate as a green company( for Marketing)....Do you use electric cars, bicycles or horses to go anywhere with your family?....one could try to be LESS destructive with everyday actions but it's an utopia today. If somebody offers you a free Ferrari or a free Prius....WTF with the contamination, right?...I'm going to take the Ferrari and I'll tell my kids that I was a selfish human but next time they have do the right thing for the future generations.
We all have to do a little more than our parents did for us with our kids and maybe 3,4,5 generations later this earth become green again....we can talk this for ever, some people is making billions selling us the green paradise today and tomorrow somebody will sell us another color saying green is obsolete, magenta is the new green of this era.
