For this project, I make few explosions setups and we use them as separate elements in different shots.
Mainly I use adaptive grid and cell size 1,7 cm. In the end the total cells was about 230 million.
Unfortunately the "back side" of the smoke ate too much memory and thats why the front side of grid clips in the end, but I see this has been fixed in newer Maya versions!
Sim time was from 2 minutes to about five.
Render time was 4-8 minutes in HD resolution.
The reason to use Maya in last one is that it was not my shot No speak Im using Maya fluids instead of PHX
(Our Maya TD has just started to use PHX beta.)
