Whoa... why should he? He's pointing you in the right direction and you expect him to do all your work for you? Sheesh.

I too have real frustrations with mats in VRay. For me it is a very weak area for VRay. You wanna bitch? I suggest you look elsewhere than to Suurland.

I for one, really appreciate any and all the info I get on this forum, from and and all sources, in whatever form it comes in.

There is no rule that says anyone has to give anything here, this IMHO is a great forum because many people do help and offer techniques but it is not a law.

I think a lot of people grow to depend on the materials settings etc. when really they would be better served to experiment and learn themselves

gee, I guess this tread is degenerating pretty quickly into a flamming mess.......
I do tend to agree with Rerender on the fact that there is no rule/law on whether or how much to reveal/talk about one's work. I mean, there is thousands of memebers on this forum, yet i keep seeing the same few names most of the time. Most people are just content with browsing through while others make a contribution.....neither is bad or good but just a choice.

              Anyway, back to the topic:
I like the rendering a lot, Suurland....even if you had the CAD model. I think that the model alone can't turn into something like your rendering if it wasn't for the great use of materials and lighting!! that either makes it or breaks it........nice work!

I´m happy for the little information from suurland, that is more than nothing and it´s his "job" to make pictures better than others
Too share information is ´super´ and it is also ok to share not the whole information.
[we also don´t get the CAD from Peugeot for the 307cc]

                Thanks a lot!

O People, try to keep your anger and stay a bit more friendly please.
What you do is not asking but demanding, and that's not friendly as well.

If the man does not want to share its settings you have no other choice then to accept that. This is an image upload section 'to show off your work' there is no obligation to share materials/settings/models etc. Just be glad that there are many people who do...

Furthermore I'd like to say, invest some time to study materials yourselves, that's the only way to produce good materials. Even if Suurland posted his settings, it will still depend a lot on your lighting and environment settings how a material will look.

Go and try to recreate the materials, post some renderings and I am sure Suurland or someone else is willing to send you in the right directions.

Natty and freak, I'm sorry if you don't think I give any help what so ever, but maybe I should just post the work on my website in the future and NOT give any help or hints what so ever in the future.

And if you guys think I'm going to tell everything about everything then you are wrong, I spend years on making this stuff and I'm not about to give it all away to 1000 people in 2 sec. And what will be next, do you want a mirror of my harddrive too?

And for those of you who think it's cheating to use CAD data, well, it's really hard to convince the client to pay me for the modeling too, when a perfect model is already made.

wow. you would do that for us suurland? thanks. my email address is fake@address.none
please email it to me as soon as you get it done.
i agree with alot said here on a serious note though. the reson he got his materials looking juicy and fine is because he has spent years working on materials and learning their properties. 3d should be something we should be striving to master. not something that we just copy paste settings. Once in a while someone will share some nice settings. but if someone chooses not to share then thats their own business. rather than complain about it why not spend time having fun trying to figure the material out for yourself. i dont know about the rest of you. but im in this industry because of my love and passion for it.

I think the work of Thomas is outstanding. Looking at his images makes me want to spend hours and hours trying to get his look and feel. Sure, if he posts all his tips and tricks, I could copy the image right away, but then I would only be ably to copy that images over and over again. By trying to create the materials and lighting myself I will be able to understand the basics of materials and lighting. That will give me the knowledge in the end to create all the images I want. Cutting and pasting is a nice start, but will not get you there.
In the end you can only do good stuff if you work hard for it (and this applies for nearly everything in life, I think).
Whenever I have to do a car material and think it looks great, I go and look at thomas' work, and start all over again. It would be a shame when he decides to leave this forum because of some rude and lazy guys.

ok ok ..... this was not a personal slur at you Suurland and i dont expect you to share all of your Harddrive or your advice.. but just some helpfull tips would be nice. its great to see everyone's work here, and it doesnt really matter if you or anyone else does the modelling .. we all use models from other scouce's when time is tight on projects and such ...

But i do think you forget your status in this forum as one who is respected very highly in your field and of course its completly up to you wether you share some of your wealth of knowlege or not ...
i just dont understand why some are more than willing and some arn't.
                          Personal choice i guess.

Well said Marc, be inspired by these kind of images and say to yourself: I don't want to be as good as Suurland, I want to be better! Then lock yourself to your computer and don't stop before you are.
Focus on your own work, use your energy to create good stuff instead of complaining, shouting and being rude.
