Ligh bulbs glare effect

Hi,

Im trying to achieve this glare effect for the light bulbs of a clothes store, like the reference photo (image 1), the result is far away in image 2, where the Vray Sphere lights are just below the bulbs, and worst in image 3, where the lighst are inside the bulbs....

do you think i should try another materials for the buls or/and try the VrayLensEffect (not very documented to my understand...). I tried with VrayLightMtl with no luck...

yes, you need the lens effect for that kind of glare, or do it in post in Ps, Ae or any other package you're more comfortable with. as long as the material goes, you may try a solid light mat for the bulbs, or a blend between a light mat and another one which may still act like some sort of glass. since you're going to blow the bulbs out with glare or glow, I guess what's behind it is not that important..

With "solid light" i guess you mean a simple VrayMtl with white/light diffuse color??

yes, simple white light material. some of the bulbs in the reference look just like that, once you add the glare it should look alright. the other ones, I guess, can be rendered with a blend between a white base mat with diffuse reflections, one coat with glossy ones like glass, and a light mat. you can even mask this last one with a gradient to achieve the same effect you see on some of those bulbs in the photo.

there is an excellent set of plugins called sapphire, which do all kinds of glares/flares/glows etc. You can output a mask for your luminaries and use it to drive the glare effect.

Thank you very much, will look this.

For the moment i get better results within Photoshop than with VrayLensEffect, maybe too subtle but i like it.
