  • Newbe directions needed..

    Hi

this is my second attempt. this scene was setted with :

    1.VRayLight mlt= 2
    2.hdri maps.
    3.defualt VRay maps.

how i can improve the lighting of the scene? what i should do to make the car part of the env?

    Thanks
    S

Your light needs to look more like sunlight. Try starting with these numbers taken from Terragen (253, 246, 215). Also, your material colors are too saturated and don't look natural. Do a search for car paint on this forum and you'll probably find some pretty interesting results

J_Bug, maybe try this scene withour the hrdi map and just use the vray environment and a direct light to simulate the sun.

You might want to also look at your AA settings, they look a little low, and because they are low the cables on the bridge dissapear!

Keep going though, its a good start

        Thanks for your references…

I reduce the saturation, I’ve changed the anti-aliasing setting but not good enough.

I tried to combine approaches; I created a white self-illuminated box on the top of the car ,I reduced its transparency to 35 so the hdri map can pass trough it, and finally I use IESun to light the car and cast some shadows.

I don’t satisfied with the results but maybe it has a direction?

        Thank

I did some rendering phases on this beautiful car. Please be patient:

          General Setting :

          1. Material: shellac on the car’s body.
          2. Light : Visible VrayLight.
          3. environment: White (Max’s)
          4. Tint : black
          5. Ambient : black
          6. Gi : on (second irect Computation)

          Stage 1 :

Only VRayLight on the top ,I turn Visible on so it will reflect on the car. I use it instead of the traditional white, self-illuminate plane.

          Stage 2 :

The same as Stage 1 only with Sky hdri on, I use it on Vray environment and reflection.

          Stage 3 :

I adjust the hdri map so its energy spot will be vertical to the car, I turn the VRayLight off.

          Stage 4 :

The same as stage 3 but VRayLight is on now.

Im not happy with the results especially in Stages 3 and 4.the car still look unrealistic and distinguished from the envoironment. What im doing wrong?

          Thanks in advance
          Shay

is the fact you dont answer means that the car is perfect?

i think a lot of your problem is your car paint material ... its just to damn shinny ... and unreal

Hey that fourth image of the audi is pretty good.

In your first test with the ford the paint material is very reflective everywhere. You need to use fresnell reflections (or a falloff map in the reflect slot)

Don't know why you changed transparancy? I think probabely you meant reflections?

You're doing too many things at once. Start by lighting the car only with skylight option (color), don't use the hdri for lighting, only for reflections. Then play with the rotation of the hdri to get nice reflections on the car. Now you can start adjusting your car material. Then when you have nice reflections and a good looking car paint, add another light (directional light or omni placed far away to mimic the sun). Now you need to adjust your light multipliers (sun and skylight).
Then focus on the rest of your modeled environment. The road texture could be a lot better for example.

Check this thread brfore you do anything else

Did you happen to search for car paint? I've actually posted a few examples with material libraries attached. They are far from perfect but maybe a good start. Notice that each of the materials are tweaked separately to suit the color and style of paint a I was attempting to make. I like the effect of the silver and the burgundy most

I should say again as I did in the previous post. The geometry is all based on models that I've downloaded (www.3dcafe.com mostly I think). I had to go through quite a bit of reworking the geometry to get good reflections. In most cases I welded verts, flipped edges and then applied a Meshsmooth. With lower poly objects VRay can get pretty messy.
