  • Newbe with Vray - Watches

    Hi guys,

I'm really a newbe on Vray, not an expert, I'm just a watchmaker, with a strong passion for 3D design.

I would like to share the renderings of my models, to have a feedback, comments and suggestions to get the best from this fantastic software.

    Thanks,
    Marco.

    Hi Tornado
Welcome to this excited world of V-Ray! I like the design of the watch and I have some comments on the render that could help you to improve it.
    1. The illumination seem to be flat - Using HDRI is a good thing to illuminate your model, but some time it is very important to support is whit some rectangular lights. Using rectangular light with different intensity and color will help you to get more contrast in the render.
    2. Could be very nice to see the glass reflection in the front of the watch
    3. The materials in the interior of the watch looks like if they just have diffuse layer. You may try to add reflection to some of them and play with the environment to get more dynamic reflection.
    4. For manufacture is not important use round corners, put for rendering it is very important. So I recommend you to avoid the sharp edges on the models to be rendered. In the new V-Ray 1.5, we support the Rhino "Edge softening" feature. Usually this feature is enough to give the illusion of round edges.

Those are all my comment. Once again, nice model and welcome to our V-Ray community .

      Hi fpedrogo,

thanks a lot for your suggestions, really appreciated. I will apply them.

On the watches I've removed the upper glass, because with it I had a lot of problems to enhance the dial pattern; but I will try again with it.
Round corners, yes, you are right! The case has only sharp edges, I will redesign it with smooth edges, it was on my plans.

At the end, Tornado is a nice flight-style anagram of my id,
      eheh,

      Best,
      Marco.
