  • Exploring fur in Vray

We've just bought a floating license of Shave, but this test was done with the plain old Vray fur attribute and hairMtl3. It sure would be sweet if we could just use nhair guides to groom the Vray fur. Anyone got any breakthrough tricks for grooming Vray fur yet?

There are ways to use vertex colors to guide the fur (using the "initial direction" and "bend" textures), but it might take some time to get used to it.

    Best regards,

Vlado (or anyone else for that matter), has anyone compiled any kind of cheat sheet or list of tips and tricks for rendering Vray fur with the hairmtl3 shader? Naturally, rendering our little turtle with the furry shell is no big deal for a still image, but animation is a whole different barrel of monkeys.

I'd love to gain some experience from others who have animated with fur in Vray on avoiding the flickers, and keeping render times low. I have heard both to use Brute force primary and light cache secondary, but also to use photon mapping.

      Thanks,

      -Anders
