  • WIP prefab system

This is a small side project for prefab system house. I have problem with metals in this project. I woudl like to have all the gray areas to be anodized aluminum with reflection ( and teh cimney to be glossy stainless steel. Neither of my setting seem to work.

Any tips for good reflective metals?

    Enviroment...........HDRI......
You probably manage to make them reflective already, but there is nothing to be reflected around, don't you thing.....?

yeah BorDy right, you have no enviroment, but model is looking good.

        try faking it
put a black and white HDRI in the environment slot of the aluminium ...works swell

Why fake it ? just have an hdri in the vray overide slot for the enviroment,
then the windows will match to the metals and so on.

            HDRI in enviroment

I guess I will ahve to look to evermotion site for tutorial. how to do it.

I am a bit confused with enviroment slots. If I read you guys correctly, the slot in teh material definition would apply only to the material itself versus in enviromental override it applied to whoile scene, right?

Hmm, I tried to put vray HDRI innto enviroment slot and it allows me to pick up wrau HDR as type of map, but it does not let me specify the file?

            Little confused.

This model is 3 hour exercise, including the model and rendering, so we have some way to go.

Max's enviroment map slot - the image you will see behind all your geometry, and the image that all your reflective materials will reflect
Vray's override enviroment map slot - the image that will be used to light your scene instead of just one color skylight, but if there is a different map in maxs enviroment slot, that map will be reflected and we'll be rendered in the background
Vray's override reflection map slot - the image that will be reflected by all materials, you can still light your scene with a different image, and you can still see some third image in the background.

Vray's material enviroment slot - an image that will be reflected by that material only

so you can actually have four different maps in your scene, for exampla, a sky in the background, some hdri for enviroment light, another map to be reflected by all the objects in the scene, and yet another map to be reflected by only one object in your scene

                      nicely put, Dusan!....very clear indeed.

maybe vlado should pay you to rewrite the vray manual...hehe

                        Envoroment maps

Thank you Dusaan, this helped a lot. Ineed to experiment with it, as at this point I do not wan to light scene with HDRI, as it is difficult to control the color. I just want a reflection in glass/metal.

                          Radim,

Love to see final images once project complete. Like the look of it so far.

nice tutorial Natty, had a look at your interior lighting setup one earlier today, nicely done . Not to sound too pushy but it would be great to see one for animation setup with irradence map saving etc.
