I've had this little problem forever and can't find a solution (though one must be simple). In this test the shading looks fine in the vfb, but when I save the image, major shading problem happens. If you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I've tried a variety of image formats, jpg, tiff, tga, exr. Makes no difference. Copying to the max FB doesn't help. Turning color clamping on or off doesn't matter. The example posted is looking under a simple porch. Attached here is another example from an interior I'm working on. Notice the beam deep shadow on the upper left.

You've probably already checked for this, but could this be a problem with the normals of the geo?www.seraph3d.com

Finally getting around to posting a sample scene. Download it here. www.wayneharney.com/post/example.zip. It is set to region render the following area. I think I've included enough of the textures to get the gist. I use 2.2 gamma in my 3dsmax gamma settings. The reason the camera is sideways is a long story. In this sample the problem isn't too bad but notice the greenish yellow on the top of the beam.
Spent all day trying everything I can think of. It seems to affect only the darkest areas of the image. Chronic problem that has me doing a lot of photoshop work.

Firstly, I'm not noticing a descernible difference between the saved file and the screenshot from the VFB - that "shadow" on the beam is there in both images.
My first guess would be to check the smoothing groups.Check out my (rarely updated) blog @ http://macviz.blogspot.co.uk/

Here I've outlined the greenish shadow areas on the posted screen capture. If you can't see it, try turning up the brightness in a photo editor. It is more apparent on some computer screens than others (less on my laptop than desktop) but the bottom line is that my clients are seeing it. I've also shown here the final photoshopped version submitted to my client where I've used tedious cloning to fix the problem in post. It is apparent on the VFB and saved image (tried multiple formats), also occurs in max FB if I turn VFB off. Still apparent when GI is turned off, trying different color mapping and image sampling settings, turning reflections off, different gamma settings, standard max lights and cameras instead of vray. I remodeled the beam with a standard max box primitive, but no change. So it shouldn't be a topology or smoothing issue. The green monster just won't go away. Hoping someone has an idea? Thanks!
