  • First post of piccies *now with toys*

Hi all. This is my first post in this section so please be kind. Most of my recent renders in Max 3.1 have been with the wonderful Vray free renderer. I doubt that my stuff really shows off how great Vray really is but I thought you might like to see it anyway.

Please feel free to visit my website www.spacebovine.com

    Anyway...on to some images.

Thanks for the kind comments all of you. When I am modelling I tend to use a large amount of FFD's on top of box modelling. I box model something into the general shape...throw a free form deformation onto it....collapse it...and then repeat until it is correct. I was originally a sculptor but I have been working in 3d now for about 8 years. As you can imagine back in my early days there wasn't a lot of choice in how you modeled (basically you used primitive objects and mooshed them together until they looked right) and I still use this technique a lot. For me 3d is a little like making an Airfix model of a car or plane....lots of little parts which go together to make the whole.

Hope that gives you some idea as to my process Paul...hope it helps. BTW...if anyone has any specific questions about anything in particular on my website, please feel free to link the picture and ask away

I am using Max 3.1 and Vray free.

thans for the quick answer, spacebovine.
I use a similar method to model, although my stuff is much simpler usually, more architectural.
I like your website...especially the little Alien model........Alien vs Predator....pretty funny

                nice work across the board!..

                  Thanks again
I'm glad that you guys are liking some of my stuff. I absolutely love the work on this forum but most of it is very different from my stuff. I am glad to see that you guys are broadminded enough to get a laugh out of my characters.

I coordinate a multimedia course in Adelaide Australia where I specialise in 3d animation, Film and Motion Graphics. I am teaching full time at the moment but I have been slowly moving into doing more of my own work over the last year or so. I am also writing a children's book www.dotsanddiamond.com which will become part of a series and is under funding consideration at the moment.
I enjoy doing character designs more than anything else, so thanks for the comments
