Based on a visual we did with our partners FLC Helsinki we created this series of animated shots.

    Here's the ANIMATION:

Make sure to watch in Full HD !

„Icebound“ is a study depicting the korean icebreaker „Araon“ on various stages of a journey through northern greenland. Additionally we added a making-of section to illustrate our work for our clients and friends. Main focus of our team was put onto creating a highly atmospheric lightscape, that should reflect the magical experience of being in polar areas. Additionally we strived to bring across the sensation of vast scale of an arctic landscape.

Obviously we were very happy to work with Vray, PhoenixFD and PD-Player on this! For the landscape we made use of the Vray-Environment Fog which really helped to give some scale to the landscape. Thanks to the chaosgroup-crew for these amazing tools!

Amazing work! You really got a great atmosphere and feeling. I imagine this was a fun project to work on =)
Just out of curiosity, what were the render times?

Thank you! We try to stay below 10 minutes per frame. That is Full HD, a lot of BR+LC, Motion Blur, HDR-Lighting and some environment fog ... But there are parts when things went up to 20 minutes as far as I remember ...

But my colleague Aranaud got some things about the DMC pretty well figured out I must admit!

Excellent work, but 10 - 20 min a frame?! What kind of pc's are these?

These are "regular" hexacores. Good stuff, but nothing fancy, really ...

My colleague Arnaud really has a good understanding of the DMC-Sampler. This helped A LOT, especially with the environment fog!

Loved it. Animation/simulations were realistic, rendering was faultless and the grade was very atmospheric.

                    Thanks also for the breakdown.
