I was asked to build a nerf gun and got carried away with the project. I modeled it in Moi. There are a few details yet to be added ( some text and a button is missing) but basically it's accurate. Nothing special about the light set up. One Dome light with HDRI but I think it needs a light in the front for the cartridge casing is that is a little washed out at the front corner.

    Cheers

How do you find moi? I'm kind of interested in a curve / solid based modeller in a lot of ways, what path do you use to take your models in to max?

I think Moi is one of the easiest modellers ever made. It took me one day to get up and running with it. You really need to add the scripts to make it really work properly. It has some quirks (the filleting is not the best but when I run into problems with it I bring the model into 123D beta (an older version) run the fillets and then bring it back into Moi. The speed that I can model at with moi is so much faster than anything else I have used. I use three methods to bring the model into Max. OBJ, FBX and if that fails I output SAT which I then convert into DWG externally. Moi's meshing is really good and the DWG conversion in Max is good as well.

Sold. Will have a look. Are the scripts you've mentioned on the main site / download area or are they on some kind of offsite forum / community?

On the main page there is "resources" and it will take you to a link http://kyticka.webzdarma.cz/3d/moi/ but the forum has a series of scripts sprinkled through it that users and the writer of the program have written.

                Thanks Brett,

I had wondered how SSS would work with a mesh that was not water tight as I import them without them being welded. seems it works fairly well. I was always under the impression the mesh had to be water tight to work correctly.
