  • New York Office Space

Here, is a project I am starting. Basically, this is what it looks like now, so my goal is to make the space look like a modern New York city office space. This was modeled from photos, supplied to me by the developer. They want to lease the space before they start construction.

One idea might be to emphasise the height of the space more. It appears a bit squat as you see it. I think this would lend itself to the feel of an older building and it seems your client is after the look of a loft.

Even if it might not be accurate to the reality of the building or the true depth of the service zone I'd imagine that you'd have some license with shifting the ceiling upwards given you're working from photo's. (or lower the camera to give emphasis)

We rarely get bright low light here. Neighboring buildings diffuse the light.

Funny you said that, because I changed the lighting setup last night, because of that very fact dawned on me. Now, I have an HDRI, which produces a diffused light. I should be able to post something later today.

This is a low resolution. I am not seeing a lot of detail, so I am going to render it out at a higher resolution, which will hopefully bring some detail into the image.

The only brief I got was, "make it look like a tech office".

You need a big-a led screen and multiple monitor rigs.

Tech buildouts offer a lot of freedom. If I were going to tackle the project I might start by using Pinterest to establish a design concept mood board. Then use that to bounce a few ideas off of the client. It is a good way to test what they are looking for without actually doing much work.

Yes. This is what I usually do first.

                  question?

If I want to mask the glass, that is behind glass, do I set the front glass as a matte (in its properties), or something?

Maybe you should have pool tables, ping pong, arcades, etc like google, Facebook.... I almost forgot and a couple desks here and there so they can work when they have some free time.

I have a video game, and a foosball table, way in the back. I did move the video table in the foreground. I'll post an update.

You can set the different "levels" of glass with separate object ID's and use the multimatteelement with MatID swtiched off. Just make sure the glass refraction is set to affect all channels

Here, is an update. Pretty low settings, but it's just a proof, for the client.

I think the composition in post #5 is superior in both view angle and light/bloom.

I dropped the camera, as suggested, to make the space look taller. Now that I bounce back to the earlier one, I agree with the light being better.
