  • cane roofing problem, need help

    Hi,
I hope you guys can help me out..
I would like to make a cane (is this the right word?) roof, so far it's going allright with displacement but I want to place it 30 degrees on the plane and not 90 degrees as you can see in the image.

Is there a way to change this??
    gr,
    Leon

I don't think it can be done with displacement.

Nope, can't be done, displacement can only go 90, maybe though if made the "roof" surface out of small steps you could get the right effect.

but i think it´s not necessary to do THIS with displacement.

hey metroberlim, what should be your way to do that? because the first thing wich came to my mind was displacement too, and this is one of the things that i really would like to learn because we use a lot this kind of roof

                Hi Leon

If you have the internal build of VRay, you could try using the Fur from that.

Alternatively, I have in the past used the Grass-O-Matic plugin. Only available for Max4 (works in 5 though).

                http://www.maxplugins.de/r4_files/sisyphus/druid.zip

"A grass generator that can also be used for fur and other hairy things. Part of the demo version of Druid, Grass-O-Matic is fully functional."

                Good luck!

Hi leon. You can modify the UVWmap (gizmo) orintation... to a non perpendicular proyection.

                    Hey,

maybe a skew modifier after the displacement modifier...

I think that this will only make distorted pins, they will be wider but still go perpendicular to the surface.

Just playing around with this interesting texture and I came up with something that looks ok from a distance but is actually more like sand when you get up close.

                        It consists of:
                        .25 Glossiness
redishbrown and bage noise in Diffuse @ 100
sharp edged Perpendicular/ Parallel Falloff in Reflect @ 100
Tight Cellular within a slightly larger and offset tight Cellular in Bump @ 75

olivierfR: VRayDisplacementMod doesn’t recognize modifiers above it.

It also sadly doesn't recognize the Edit Normal modifier..

Something origionally for realtime, but i think it could add some interesting effects into the whole Displacement scene..

Try like this, take that roof plane of yours, and narrow it down, to like 1/200 of its original width. Rotate it 60 degrees from the original plane, put it on the begining of the original plane and copy it 200 -300 times or so up the original plane, you will then make those steps someone mentioned above. I guess it would look ok viewed from a distance.
