Using V-Ray 2.0 for SketchUp Release Candidate 3, rendered in 5mins

Somehow my exterior renders, like this one, can look a little 'artificial' if you know what I mean.
    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

I've re-worked this. Decided it was, partly, my sloppy modelling that was letting the image down, so I've added little details - gutters, projecting window sills etc. so I think it is looking a bit better

That second image is excellent David!

      A few suggestions:

Using lens shift in Physical Camera to make the verticals vertical would create a more pleasing image.

Reduce the depth of the LC pass so the darkest shadows are darker. I usually use a Depth of just 1 for exteriors and sometimes even reduce the ratio of IM to LC to exaggerate this effect.

I'm not sure if you're using a Linear Work Flow, but I do think the final image would benefit from Gamma reduction in PS to make it "pop".

Use the burn tool in PS to "dirty" up some of the image, especially the ground and where the building meets the ground. It really helps to reduce that artificial feeling you wrote about.

Thanks for tips and I'll give them a go.
I had already 'dirtied' up the ground a little, but I think your right, and will give it a bit more.

The Environment Sky doesn't match the illumination of the house. In very cloudy/rainy days the shadows are very soft and the direct illumination is almost unnoticeable.
I think it will look much better if you change the Sky image to something more sunny in order to match the illumination in the scene.

            Thanks for the comments.

Made a few adjustments, which I think is making it look better.
            a) Lens shift to straighten the verticals
            b) reduced the LC depth to 1 (but not sure this has made a difference)
            c) dirtied up the paving where it meets the building
            d) changed the sky

I also beefed-up the ambient occlusion - but I'm not sure if I have overdone it!

I think its just about there.

Yeap - it is looking better now. But The hall in this version is very dark - I suppose that this is due to LC depth set to 1.
I think it would be better to switch LC depth back to 100 - the GI solution will be much smoother than if it is 1.
