  • Engine renderings

    Hello Gang,

I'm a first time poster so excuse me if I botch this upload process.

The images are of a engine concept. Modeled in Rhino 2, rendered in Max3 with vray basic.

Some of the engine specs. are:
    4 cylinder
    2 liter
    16 valve (opposite paired)
    Mirrored Manifold
    Air/Oil cooled

I welcome all C&C on renderings or design.

    Thanks, Sean

Great job, GI looks nice with all that detail. The belt and cam covers are not quite convincing to me maybe the bump is too large. I love the foil.

As far as design I really like the concept. Never liked radiators, I have a hard time believing that there are enough cooling fins. Also I would be very concerned for the msd, looks like it is in a very warm spot and a hard place to get a wrench.

    I'd love to hear a 4 cyl with 8 exhaust ports .

      Hi Rerender,

      Thanks for your input.

With regard to cooling, I agree the fins would be insufficient, but in tandem with an expanded oil capacity - 5 or 6 liters - and cooler (not shown in rendering), heat may not be a problem. Of course this does re-introduce a need for a radiator. One of the possible benefits of a valve layout as demonstrated is a thermal symetry which allows for a higher temp combustion chamber without the resultant pre-ignition problems.

All of this is still highly conceptual and many engineering concerns remain unresolved. Actually, all engineering concerns are unrersolved, and will no doubt remain that way. I can, however, address the some of the materials in the rendering and keep the board posted.
