  • Standox Calendar 2014

Recently had the pleasure to work on the 2014 Calendar for the German car paint manufacture "Standox". We were tasked with creating 13 Hi Res Images and a "Making of" Animation for some of the pictures.
The schedule was pretty tight so it made for a challenging but fun project. Lots of Vray and Realflow

We're in the process of creating a new website and the current one doesn't support direct links so please if you want to see the rest of the images go to www.ralphrichter.com -> architecture -> transportation -> purecolour.

The animation can be found on https://vimeo.com/75393439 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzxy-MLHKKk

        I love it! Fantastic work.

Part of me would really love to get into more fluid type stuff. Then I start working with Phoenix and realize that I have a LOT to learn!

Thanks to you too Dolnald2B for the kind words. Fluid dynamic stuff is really interesting but for the most part it can be pretty frustrating especially if you just can use it on one maschine so iterations take time. And just to get a certain frame you have to wait for maybe 200-300 frames are done simulating. And if you don't like it well change setting and try again. But more often than not happy accidents happen where the software does something you don't expect. (at least its still for me like that maybe that will go away with more experience). I really hope that in the near future we can get fluid simulation software where simulating over the network is possible (like distributed rendering in Vray). The last sim where the paint splashes against the "Pure color" text took 7 days to simulate for 10 seconds of animation. Sadly we had to reduce the quality during the second half of the simulation or else we wouldn't have made the deadline.

In terms of software I'd recommend realflow ( yes it's not the cheapest solution) but it's more artist friendy than other packages like houdini/naiad. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying those two are bad just harder to get into.
Of course no matter what you decide to do Good Luck and Have fun
          Cheers,
          Oliver
