This is a project I started awhile ago and decided to come back and finish it. No political statement is intended.

Not particularly pleased with the second one, but it requires insane render times to get the translucent material to look sharp. When I have more time Ill come back and rerender it without using interpolation and Im sure itll look better.

Very realistic and nice, looks like a photo!
Anyway the steel bars need some more smoothing, coz they look a little bit not having perfect curving, (more steps for the curve)
Very nice my friend, and believe me, the second image looks just fine!

Thanks for all the kind words. Heres a material screenshot and a wireframe showing light. Its fairly straightforward. As you can see from the material editor, I spend some time trying to fake it using a raytrace material, which never gave me any problems but could never get it to look as good as the vray mat. Course times with the fake were about 1/10 the time of the vray mat.

Difference between images is that for the first image, the vray lights were turned off and skylight was turned up. Second image lights were turned on and skylight turned down to almost nothing. material has a wrapper on it, and I played around with the GI settings for added effect.

That looks nice percy. I was playing a lot with translucency too and didn't manage to get the light spread more to the area in between the two bulbs. Do you have an idea?

theres alot of different ways to achieve that to be honest. take a look at my material settings. Try really high thickness. Or put it into a vray mat wrapper and play with the gi receive multiplier. Others might have other ideas.
