La Maison de Verre by BBB3viz, on Flickr

Thanks to a lucky combination of circumstances, I found myself with a bit of time in the past weeks and decided to use it for a slightly larger personal project. After considering and discarding several possible subjects, I had an email exchange with Peter Guthrie who suggested I try my hand at Pierre Chareau's "Maison de Verre". Having pored over some references (I was lucky to find two very good books on this house, with lots of technical drawings), I decided to have a go at it. It turned out to be a lot of fun (I like my fun slightly tedious) as well as a bit of a technical challenge.

Visit my blog for more images and details about this project.

So far your best piece Bertrand! True masterpiece. Did you use vray 3 for that one or still sticking to the 2.4?

He is an android...never sleeps. He managed to hide his power cord quite well when i saw him in Venice in October...still my suspicion persists

Thanks guys. I enjoyed a longer-than-usual break a few weeks ago so time wasn't too much of a problem. Still, I only modeled the front rooms of the house. This is vray 3.0. Just love progressive rendering for tests.

These are incredibly nice, and soothing to look at.
Though I consider my self quite partial to the use of chromatic aberration, I find your use of it in these images a tad too strong. Especially in the center of the images where I would expect it to be a lot less.

                These are really, really nice.

Did you model and texture everything or use some premade assets? (I'm all for using assets to save time).

                Beautiful rendering.

Thanks all for the nice feedback. I may have overdone CA on some of these. Magic bullet can be a bit tricky there, as how much CA it applies seems to vary greatly depending on the resolution of the image. Also, it does not really give a proper preview for it.

Richard, everything is handmade apart from the piano, which is a stock model. I normally model all my assets. But there really was no choice here as these were designed by the architect and are really part of the building (though I took some small liberties with them).

Nice work (as usual)! Actually it is flawless work. Nothing to critique here.

One thing I notice is that there are a lot of detail shots and close ups, are these cropped from larger stills? Or your own tests Bertrand?

The reason I ask is that it's hard to know what the actual space of the room looks like fully (apart from the first shot). I'm a little confused. Forgive me if I'm sounding rude (I don't mean to), I'm just curious to the project itself and what the feature or existing/proposed elements are.

Material work is spot on too btw. They are always sharp in your renderers, do you use texture filtering?
