    Hello everybody!
Awaiting for the new Blender svn implementation, I'd like to present what I've recently made with one of the latest 2.5 "custom builds".
I enjoyed very much the stability of the pipeline. After mastering some emitters/proxies characteristics the process started to be like a
    "fire and forget" weapon.
I can have a comparison to working on MAX (at work), where my colleague still fights with dull interface actions and v-ray crashes happening with no clear reason...

Thanks in advance for any comments!

    Re: Kindergarten

    Amazing grass!
    Trees and building look great.
The sky needs some serious love.
Photographically, they need focal points and more dynamic compositions.

    #1
    - The composition is very flat, because of the path, the image focuses on the tree, but it is very weak. To improve this, I'd step to the right 10-15 meters and forward 5-7 so I had a nice V shape between the path and the front face of the building. I'd look for either the left window, a tree or the corner as the focal point of my image and place it on the left third of the image. I might also drop the camera about half way to the ground and look up a few degrees putting the grass in the bottom third of the image, and the building taking up the top two thirds.
    - A cement texture on the path might also make it look more natural.
    - The tree shadows are strange, are the all real? The tree on the right doesn't seem to have a trunk shadow on the grass, only on the building. Perhaps it's just the angle, which may be fixed from the composition point.

    #2
    - Only this image has a strong focal point. I think it should be moved a little off balance for a more dynamic composition. I'd move the camera about 5-10 degrees to the left so the hallway terminates on the right third of the image, or between center and the right third. I might also drop the camera a bit and angle up so the doorway is on the right third, on the top third.
    - The far left glass pane looks too perfect (invisible), so the reflection of the floor in the grass looks like a mistake. Perhaps you could arrange a whiter reflection on the glass, or give it a little less perfection (spots, dirt, warp, refraction, scratches) so it is clearly glass. This may be fixed with the composition adjustment.
    - The texture on the far building has a moire pattern. That can be fixed with the right antialiasing filter. The edges on the wood slats are rough and also need anti aliasing.
    - The grey wall on the right is splotchy. You're probably using light cache with too low of samples.
    - What are those things on the grass?

    #3
    - The focal point fights between the green and the far window on the left. Neither looks intentional or powerful. That room might be difficult to photograph, however there are nice lines from the floor slats, the ceiling lines and the cross walls. If I were in this room, I'd move to the back corners behind the camera on the right and left; I'd get low and get high and look for how all the lines converge into a very nice, strong focal point without any of the other objects, colors, shapes or lights distracting from the focal point. I'd also look in the back, middle with the camera resting on the ground so the whole bottom third of the image shows lines from the slats, maybe in a wider angle lens. However I have a feeling that the dark area on the right is going to be the best focal point, with the camera in the back left corner.

If you really wanted to keep it similar to this shot, then I'd angle the camera so the far window is cut off. Hold up your hand and look at it, cutting off everything to the left of the white bookshelf. That allows the colored shelves to take focus. You could strengthen that by having a vibrant color at the end and white closer to the camera.

    - The focal point fights between the blue and red. I would probably elevate the camera 5-10 meters, tilt down, and move it closer to the red side of the building. In the image, the building face now forms a diagonal from the top left of the image to the bottom right, with most of the image being the red/tree area and the blue/green/yellow are present but aren't drawing the eye away. The red tree would have the largest graphic weight.

      Thanks very much,
This is true, when you work on something, at some point you start not seeing some obvious or important issues. So I must say you're right with all composition suggestions
These were made for competition purpose where rather static project views were needed, so apart from that some more abitious perspectives could be done for this, I'm afraid they wouldn't be qualified as optimal for this particular competition judging "profile".

      According to some other questions:
-I was tending to a bit surreal look, that's why the pavement is white (again, not very consequent nor successful)
-There are daisies in the grass
-The trees.. their trunk shadows are there - but very weak indeed..

        Re: Kindergarten

Yeah the daisies and the grass look fantastic. Is that all done with blender particles? That's one thing I haven't messed with yet, so many things to learn.

          Thanks!
Yes, there are separate emmiters for each type of plant. I usually use two for grass and one for flowers.
Each "grass" particle consists of several strands because child particles aren't implemented..

There are no arrangements for now (apart from the fact, much of the furniture is composed into walls).
Our beautiful country will need to wait for such architecture some more - the team/project lost the competition.

Grass is one good thing that remained after this work. I did mesh and textures myself so I can release it for everyone to unlimited use. Here is the link:

wow, voytov, great job! i second a lot of what cory said, but with a little tweaking you should have superb renders in no time. It looks really nice already.
I like the surreal look though and i think you should keep it. and thanks for the grass : i will definitly check it out.
