    First a simple test:

    Therme Vals

Screenshot for my first version, baked with Blender Internal, looks bad.

    Work in progress with Vray

Re: Therme Vals, Vray + BGE

How do I get rid of these dirty shadows? Looks like AO, but AO is disabled. More Hsph.Subdivs? I am using 100 at the moment for the Irradiance map. I am baking textures BTW!

Re: Therme Vals, Vray + BGE

      hi martin
      im sorry for this question
      but what is this?
is it student work or collage...?
that is realtime simulator ( walktrough camera )?
      or 2D renders

i"m sorry at now i see BGE :P
for get best simulator you need add bloom effect and more postprocess my friend never forget add reflection with low value to add reflect wood and more object like floor for get best wall you must add 2 or 3 horizontal parts at wall (like Baseboard and more collor ) if you want add Baseboard on floor must add 2 different stone for floor

      have goood time ;
      sorry for my bad english

Thank you for the reply, we will discuss this further when I post more details and workflow. Oh yes, BGE= Blender Game Engine

Re: Therme Vals, Vray + Blender Game Engine

This is a remake of a real building, so I can't change the wall textures, but I can correct the bump map.

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therme_Vals

The stairs are also as they should be

Any other thoughts how to make it look more like the real building?

Re: Therme Vals, Vray + Blender Game Engine

                            Some more testing,

I have found a better workflow for baking crisp lightmaps.

The normal render/baking procedure is by using 1)Irradiance map, then 2) Light cache. This produces very clean renders, but when baking you get wide and big dark smudges where different meshes are close, making corners very dark, leakage basically.

There is another way of making very crisp baked lightmaps, without the smudges:

                            1) Brute force, 32-48 samples
                            2) Light cache

This will produce almost as detailed lightmaps in the same rendertime, but the baked renders will be a bit grainy. We will solve this with gimp. Download BIMP, a batch handler plugin for gimp, and apply Selective Gaussian filter to all the lightmaps. This is a kind of surface blur filter that will get rid of all the grains.

Here are just some more recent tests using Vray baking, you can see the problem with dark corners agains the wooden ceiling in the first image, the second image is with the brute force technique. The last image is using a dynamic spotlight and a dynamic point light for scattering, in Blender Game Engine.
