This is an artwork I did for Maxim magazine's December issue this year. Hopefully the concept comes across, but just in case it doesn't, it's a festive light-up lawn ornament Father Christmas, wielding a shotgun.
As it was an editorial piece it was a super quick 3 day turnaround. Santa was modelled in ZBrush in a couple of hours and the rest of the time was spent fiddling with everything else in the scene, especially the lighting and materials. The shotgun was bought in from Turbosquid, the wreath and tree from Evermotion and the smoke we shot ourselves and comped in Photoshop.
If I'm honest, I'm still not 100% happy with the way the light spills onto the grass and if I get the time to go back to it I'd like to put some snow on the ground too.
Merry Christmas!
