Vanilla Seed animated greetings card done with Vray Blender
wonderful work. Great color and lighting, touching animation, and as a very special bonus...blender! Good to know for those side projects. Don't mind paying for VRay out of my own pocket, but really glad to see proof of blender's abilities.
Hi Arnaud!
I've made a lot of tests on this film, because we had a short deadline, I couldn't afford to use bruteforce everywhere.
So, for every shot without character, we use a precomputed GI (IR + LC), with camerapath on. For the precomputing, I only render everty 50th frame.
I've made the same thing for all shots, hiding the characters if needed.
Then I render a character pass, using sphere fade. Don't forget to ask sphere background to be black and alpha 0. (btw I don't understand the use of the default grey for sphere fade).
For this pass I use brute force and a lot of tweaking for the DMC. Balance beteween global sampling and global (GI and lights, was very important)
I've found a very very good doc there :
Sorry, I haven't seen your question.
This film was made with about 4 peoples during 2 months. (but not always the same persons)
It was made for my copmany as as animated wishes card.
The main complexity for me was the snow shader. I've tried a million things (particle - displacement - car paint - etc...) without reaching what I want. But, luckily, characters and story was great, and it is not so important.
