I started a hugely ambitious personal project a while back and recently realized i'm never going to finish it off, so I quickly wrapped up a viewpoint as best as possible and rendered it. It's sad, but I think i'm only about 1/3 of the way through the original plan and i've only done what could be considered the easy stuff so w/e.
Hardly any post work - quick atmosphere pass, a curves & glow on both. render times on a single i7 were 2h for the day one at 4k and 3h for the dusk at 4k.

here it is in the day

    and at dusk

Top marks to anyone who can recognize the real world space I used as reference!

Nice work! I think thats my backyard?

It responds well to heavy post work (I couldnt resist).
I think i recognize some of the plant models or did you do them yourself? What were the render times like?

They're pretty much all evermotion plants - all the materials needed a fair bit of adjusting & optimization though.
they were rendered at 4k, and render times were 2 hours on an i7 for the daytime, 3h for the dusk. the dusk could do with a little noise cleaning off the concretes if i rendered again but it's not very noticeable.

e: render times don't include IR map/LC passes - they were pre calced and the fog was done separately too. in total it's 5 on the day (2 base, 2 IR/LC, 1 fog), 8 on the dusk (3 base, 3 IR/LC, 2 fog)

I believe the real world space reference is Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

You used IRR+LC; any reason why you didn't use BF+LC? Did you compare render times between the two?

I could try but I very much doubt that bf & lc can render even the day one in anything close.

nicely spotted sduck - I knew a couple people on here are from boston

Lovely little piece - I want to see a stereo panorama rendering of this for the OR

I know all too well the feeling of unfinished personal projects that need to be wrapped up!
