  • WIP - The Scifi thing

Just having some fun with materials and VRay displacement, by no means is this scene complete. Some material testing and mood setting for a more complex (and overly ambitious) scifi town. The main object is a vent shaft from under ground only about 3' tall.

    That is really cool.

Texturing looks awesome. I like the wooden sleepers at the back. Only thing I'm not too sure about is the horizon, it seems too sharp.

      looks good, Dman3d!

I like the detail work on the rusted textures.....really nice

the wood look really nice as well....is that displaced??

at the bottom of the vent shaft the sand/mud pealed off to show some of the material of the shaft...is that geometry or done entirely through texture??

good start...can't wait to see more.

Well since this is only a test file, and a beginnig , the horizon will be a bit boring until I get the rest of it done. The area around the vent is a 10' square patch that I deformed a bit then the surrounding area is just planes. There is a bit of displacement on the ground under the vent and the surrounding area. The main stucco part of the vent body is displaced to give thickness to the stucco the cracked/broken areas.

The wood pile is photoreferenc, I did dscplace it but it did not really seem to net mutch so I pulled it off. The crate is just an image done in pshop w/no photo reference. Sad thing is in the final alot of these object will be so small you will never see any of the detail.

The biggest trick at the moment is working on the ground, going to take some time to make all the textures to make it look unique.

Just using this scene to test ideas and work out a few ideas. The final (if I can keep myself on it) will be your typical sci-fi badlands kind of town, just a bit of personal fun and learning.

The lighting is great, care to share your settings?

Single direct light about .85 (slight orange)
Using a blurred background image (env slot and background slot max)
blurred in pshop, want to make some HDRI but not sure I am willing to
pay the time cost just yet, perhaps when I get closer to final.

            Remember, just testing ideas
