  • Exterior Boards problem

Hey guys, Im having a problem with an exterior scene. The model is of a cottage that has weatherboard cladding on the outside. Now the problem that i have got is the weatherboards that are being lit by the secondary bounces produce a really poor shadow. (see attached image)

I have tried heaps of different settings but i cannot get the desired result. The end result will need to be quick enough to render for an animation.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appriciated.

there are quite some quiestion, what kind of anmation will be? Do you really need the displaced grass?
As far as I see, the enviroment multiplier too high the image is burned out. set it to 1 or even less.
The antialiasing set treshold to 0.03 and sampling rate to 0/3. Rhis may solve the ugly look on the side. THe reason I ask for the displaced grass beacause If you set almost any parameter in gi/antialiasing it will increase rendertime quite much.
Also you get an enviroment lighting from everywhere, you dont need five bounces, you can even try to turn off secondary bounces. It'll decrease rendertime, and you get better contrast. Try these.
And after that, try to play with the color treshold parameter in the gi settings. But this will increase rendertime...
(if nothing comes too good, cheat, make a texture already with shadows, that will help hide artifacts.)

id say your problem is your sub-divs on the secondary bounces needs to be raised. thats the reason you get lower quality on your secondary bounce shadows
