Here is one that I am sending off Monday. It started with a gray scale model, which went through 6 revisions. Here is the design the architect's client landed on.

I used V-Ray presets, which were the default for IM + LC, I think. Now, this bad boy rendered at 5000k in less than 1 1/2 hours.

Looks good. Trees have a weird colour though.. unless that kind of species of tree looks like that. Also the sidewalk looks strange, some kind of misbehaving normalmap?

Both are on my list to fix. I didn't want to do anything until the client had a chance to review them.

Look good overall. I think the pavements look very white...lacking any detail.

Sidewalk? yes, I agree. I have a sidewalk kit, which has all the parts and is mapped, but I need to show it some love.

No feedback from the client, just final payment, which is always nice. Actually, this client would pay in full, up front, if that's how I billed him. Anyway, here are some updates.

Love the skid marks in the road. Lots of drag racing there?

What focal length does your camera use for this? 24mm? So many of these arch-viz renderings have such massive perspective to the architecture. It always seems so severe and unrealistic. But almost ALL renderings do that so i must be wrong about that.

You have the vignetting or whatever its called that i really like in your renderings. The renders are both sharp and detailed while also being fuzzy and artistic at the same time. Keep em coming! You are the only one that posts 'real world' work (in the arch-viz world). Haha.

Thanks! I'll have to check, but I think I used a 24mm lens. I use Google's PS plugin for the sharpening, however I use the zdepth pass to apply less in the background. Also, I use the same Google PS plugin for the vignette and I try to keep it subtle. I should have made the tire marks less noticeable. I did an UVW unwrap, which is pretty new for me.

I made the point about 'real' projects from calls and emails I get from potential clients. What I am told is people have awesome stuff on their website, but what they did for them was nothing like what they should that they can do. I always make the point that either they spent months on images for their portfolio or the company they use, uses the next available artist; some with little to no experience.

I get 3d World magazine. There are so many incredible renderings that must have taken weeks to prepare. But the creators say "I did this in four hours in my free time". Haha.

Nothing i have ever done matches the ability to spend countless hours like doing 3d does. (With maybe the exception of video games).

Some others here post renderings on here that seem spectacular. Better than i may ever do (since i can only dedicate so much time to getting better). Your renders seem achievable to me and good enough to impress while still able to make money doing it. So keep em coming!

Thanks. I usually keep a check list (actually I use Evernote) on each project and I try to prioritize the list. A lot of the times I simply can't get to things. My projects usually run back-to-back, so when time is up, it's up. I also keep a list of things to get back to, after the project is over, but that list just gets longer and longer.

It's feasible to start and end a project in a day, but that kind of project is usually fictitious. It's not to difficult to make up something, but when you have to accurately show things, it is much more difficult.

I got a last minute call for raising the camera 25", which I typically hate, but it turned out okay. Lately, my clients seem to think I am working for them per hour. I am getting stuff like, let's try this brick, or maybe lets change the roof. Maybe, I should start using a contract
