  • High-rise rendering

    Hi guys,

I am working on a short animation of this high-rise, this is a preliminary rendering, I am still tweaking materials to achieve more realistic look of the facade and reflections. Righ now I am using HDRI map both for GI and reflections and glossy reflections for that "alucobond-like" panels material. Any suggestions how to improve the materials ?

Am I wrong or will we see a lot of renderings with Natty's fabulous silver material? It's kind of ood to see it applied so ssystematically on the whole tower. Maybe a little variation with a less reflexive and shiny material every once in awhile would outline the details...

looks cool ...you need to watch your verticle lines.. and i think you may need to increase the subdivs inthe material.. looks grainy

        Thanks guys for the comments

As for the vertical lines, I always watch for them in stills, this is going to be a 40 second animation and the camera is looking up most of the time so I can not avoid this distortion.

Anyway, I have decided for a twilight scene finally, here is another test frame (low AA, low samples).

OK, so it is shaping up. One more shot from the end of the camera path. All comments welcome.

Well, I think I am done. Please let me know about any improvements you can think about before I start rendering the whole animation. Thanks

The last image need a little bit of adjusment...the view looks like its distorted too much..usually this kind of view is suitable from ground to up but not halfway from the middle...repair the prespective a little...try to get 1 of the corners straight.

I think you may have some errors inside on the ceiling of some of the floors. I can't see the images now for some reason.

j_bug : what kind of errors do you see ? just to explain the interior geometry a little bit - the ceilings are just flat slabs with some irregular lighting pattern mapped on them.

I think J_Bug means the ceilings, some are illuminated nicely and some are solid black.

Yes, the black areas are what I was talking about.

Actually, that has been done intentionally. I am trying to show some offices with the lights on and some others vacant, with the lights off. So that is why some ceilings are black.

I have rendered out a couple of stills. This is one of them. Please comment.
