Yes, I have been pretty busy and thankfully, no end in site.


In its defense, it's on the back of a three story building and surrounded by other three story buildings, so I think, this is pretty accurate.

I'm intrigued by the projects you work on Bobby. What kind of people are requesting this sort of stuff. It doesn't look particularly 'high end' enough to warrant/justify the expense/time in creating a CGI. Are they developers or end users? It seems very different to over here in the UK where only projects over a certain value seem to employ the use of CGIs (either that or they go to a back bedroom company that charges 50 pence an image).

Oh yes - and as others have said, play with your lighting. It needs to be either daylit or dusk: at the moment, it is difficult to tell what it is supposed to be.

In the states, you pretty much have to provide 3D services, and most small architectural shops still use 2D CAD. Most people, from architects to kitchen designers, are looking for a way to increase their value to their clients. If you are providing 3D services in-house, for the most part, it is bad. They are spending a lot of time to produce poor quality, so it is cheaper to contract outside their office.

This one is the outside of that kitchen render I posted a couple weeks ago. I massed it out a couple weeks ago, sent a proof, but never heard back. Well, I didn't hear back until late Friday, requesting something for an early Monday meeting. I had a very vague floor plan, so I am sure it will evolve into a much nicer space. I started it mid-day yesterday and sent him the image around mid-night; I had no time to play with lighting.

I'd try a dusk / late afternoon look with a few lights on. Those hours remind me of a drinks/barbecue scenario which would be great for this scene. It will also make your fire stronger.
