  • RT GPU production - Hand held cam

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to share this little one

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eTHM9HLrlY

I shot the camera movement with my iPhone and then tracked it to get a more natural look and feel to the animation.
Rendered on SP3 beta at 20min per frame on 5x GTX Titan X

Youtube compression isn't great so for those who would like to see how the noise really look like, here is the raw 100% H264 download link :
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6T...ew?usp=sharing

Interior is still in WIP, and I guess some of you have recognize it from the stereo panos I've done recently :

    Hope you like it.
Any C&C welcome, for anim, pano and interior

The animation looks awesome! Especially since it's GPU! (Youtube looks fine to me, didn't notice any noise). Looks beautiful at 1080, and even DOF in there. Well done. I wonder how long it would render to get same quality with standard VRay production render on a single PC.

Interior looks great. As for the scale of things that was mentioned in another thread, I think if you just modify the XML files to have a different FOV, things look much better. (zoom in a little when viewing the site - make the FOV narrower). Whats the seems about there? I can see white seems where the cube was patched. Is there a way to get rid of it?

What did you shoot with the iPhone, just random movement or did you have a scaled plan or something? And then what software did you use to track the shot footage?

Where is that sofa/couch model from or did you do it yourself?

EDIT: Hmmm just tried the pano with a Samsung S3 as well as a LG G3, and on both those, the gyro isn't working. I have to use the touchscreen to move. Also, the URL is caps sensitive which is not a good idea, this is something that can be set on the web server side

        Glad you guys like it

Track isn't anything special, had to use my imagination but used a spot that would be really easy to track, basically a grid :

I'm using 3D Equalizer as it's the best one on the market IMO, plus they have a subscription plan.

        For the pano :
        * The seems are coming for my conversion for Vray's cubemap to KRpano cubemap. Not sure why that one failed as all the other worked perfectly.
        * The FOV, you're right, it looks better with a narrower FOV but the issue on the other thread is when you have a headset on, where you can't change the FOV.

sofa comes from 3dsky if I remember correctly, 5$

Nice stuff Stan, inspiring to test tons of things. Don't forget to put some tomato soup in those dishes.

Absolutely astonishing. Definitely one of the best interior renders that I've ever seen, congrats Concerning the camera shaking, I've never really managed to understand it. Don't get me wrong, you did a really good job on the shaking. But personally I think that it isn't a good effect and when I see it in movies it really disturbs me. I cannot understand what the directors are trying to show with this kind of effect. But that's another topic

i *think* i can see some lightcache flicker on the rear wall, but it could be my imagination..

In my tests with 3.2, IRMAP with medium preset was slower than BF (this was with an exterior shot with plenty of foilage with forestpack 4 - not beta 5). Still have to test sp3 beta 2.

To me, this says that imap could do with an overhaul! it should always be faster than BF... however, unfortunately, i think imap is pretty waaaay down the priority list these days, despite still being incredibly useful.

                      Hey guys,
Another one that rendered over the WE :

Only 10min per frame for this one.
On the raw, way more noise, but for some reasons, on youtube it's still pretty smooth. Maybe it's due to the compression or I youtube apply a denoiser automatically

That is very cool! You say 10 minutes per frame - that's GPU I guess? What's the render time with the standard renderer?
