True, I myself haven't tried ornatrix on large surfaces yet.

a: i dont think the dual processor problem was fixed for max5 and b: for some reason when i calculate the dynamics and render a still it looks nice. but when i render an anim i loose the dynamics

In the first example (the slow one), I forgot and left HDRI lighting on (my mistake), so render time was about 14 mintues total for 51 frames of animation.

In the second faster example, I turned off HDRI lighting and it only took 8 minutes for 51 frames of animation.

            system specs:
            Dual Xeon 3.2 (1mb cache)
            2GB DDR Ram
            QuadroFX1100
            3dsmax6

Natty - You've downloaded the latest build and it's still crashing when you render? If you post the problem on the ornatrix forum I'm sure Marsel will try to help resolve the issue.

I'm sure it's one heck of a task to work all the bugs out of a new plugin. I know I wouldn't want that job!

Anyone have luck with Ornatrix and VRayLights or VRayShadows?

I was also going to mention the option to convert to geometry (ornatrix geo). I've been using the heck out of that for grass in my outdoor scenes. It works great for it, and it's faster (for me anyway) than using displacement or VRay fur.

almost 2 million primitives with GI and it rendered in a shade over a minute....to me...that's fast!

Nice work, Thanks for the tip about geohair. Not sure if it's in the build I have, so I would guess this is the only way to use VRay shadows on the hair as opposed to the Ornatrix shadow?

Do you remember how long the render was without geohair?

                    Thanks,

I'm working with the geohair now but I was just wondering if you've run into this other problem yet. I'm trying to figure out if it could be a bug with VRay.

Here is an example of Volumetric hair with and without VRayMat reflections. Notice the areas that appear to be showing through wherever there should be a reflection. Any ideas?

BTW, he should have sideburns but the short hair isn't rendering for some reason.
