  • Just enough time for a quicky

Here's a quick one I did this week using a photo background (crappy photo, I know) and vray shadow matte. The whole project was 9 hours total work, which included the design, design sketches, modeling, T&L, post. I don't think there would be any way I could have finished this so fast without Vray. You just don't have to worry about getting the rendering software to work anymore, it just does. Did I mention I love Vray!!

    Perlim Image with silly geometry.

P.S. There are some progress images on the project webpage with wires and matte setup.

    Vray shadow matte

    Hi,

    Like your image.

I was wondering what you meant by Vray Shadow Matte? I've been try to use the matte/shadow material with little success, except when used as part of a blend material. But still I can't get the shadows to affect the alpha channel.

Is that what meant? Wouls be curious to know more.

vray material wrapper has its own matte shadow option or you can do it in object properties in the vray system rollout in the render setting

Hey, sorry it took so long to get back to you, busy weekend.

Ollie: sorry I didn't get to anwser your question and thanks Da_elf for anwsering it.

budd: I'm not sure what you mean by gobos thats a new one to me? My lighting setup is just a nearly white (with a touch of blue) enviro. lighting and a fairly yellow and bright (1. direct light at the proper angle of course. For the matte material (vraywrapper) I used the background image w/ screen uv projection for the diffuse color map so that the house actually reflected the appropiate GI color/level. Hope that helped.

While I'm here I should ask you guys a question. Is there any way to make objects in max "not" self-shadow themselves or select other objects? This was really a problem in this render. The roof overhang and the sidewalls would be invisible but cast shadows onto themselves and the other matte objects which would double up the shadows already on the background image. This is the only thing that kept me from rendering the in one past.
            Any ideas?
