                            A good way to make displacement maps like tile roofs and such is to model the geometry in a prefered tilabele size, use a gradiant map to shade it from black to white/bottom to top and render it from a top down view (usually the top view). This makes very clean maps. It is also very easy to add details in PS as well, plus it makes a good tool for creating the diffuse texture.
