Something Im currently working on. Mostly blocking out the dimensions and some preliminary materials. Need to play with the color mapping some as the main room isn't getting the keylight that other parts are for some reason.

Wow Percy, that's looking really good. Love the stainless steel.

I quite like the atmosphere of the image. Are you planning on
turning on some downlights? Eitherway, keep the background image
grey with fog if you can.

Are you using HDRI to light this one? Lightmaps aswell?

There'll be some downlights, but I dont know yet how much they will contribute to the final lighting. Thanks for the replies!

BTW, the grey looking fog is the result of the color mapping I think. Itll probably have to go.

Man I wanted to ask how you made that great exterior just before I read your last post Interior looks great all of the materials look right on but the exterior really fits the scene. Reminds me of maybe a house on the bay in afternoon fog.

Great stainless steel! Overall lighting is very good but that metal highlight really makes the scene. Did you do annything special?

              nice work percy,
but I think overall its a bit too dark.....even if it's a cloudy day, there would be more bouncing light in there....especially w/ large windows like the ones shown.

the mats look great.......wait to see the final

Thanks for the replies. Heres an update on the lighting. The GI quality has been lowered for speed and I temporarily lost the glossy reflection on the floor as it was taking forever.

It has a temp background to get it away from that foggy look. The fog looked cool, but was never my intention. If you look at the far hallway you can see how bright the sun is supposed to be. I fiddled with the color mapping and got it a little brighter though I still think its a little too dark in some places that should be receiving alot of key light.

The stainless material is fairly simple vray mat with anistropic reflections applied. When Im happy with the finished mat Ill post the settings.

Still alot of work, gosh I must be about 10% done with it. Now that Im fairly happy with the lighting layout Ill continue adding detail and fixing errors.

                percy

EDIT: just noticed the stainless steel looks nowhere as good as the first image...will work on that.

I would say your key light/sun needs to be stronger for the main interior we're looking at.....

also you might wanna increase your secondary bounces (don't know if you're using direct comp or other for that).....but that would get a bit more light around, as well as creating more contrast between dark/lit areas.....right now it has a general "greyness" tinit to the whole thing that kinda stops it from poping out.....

                  just some thoughts

                  paul.

PS: the greyness could be because you don't have glossies on the floor too.....don't know..

If it needs to be a bright sunny day, you're going to need a lot more contrast. There's no need for downlights then.

By the way, as cool as the highlight is on the stainless, where's the source supposed to be coming from? At present there's something about it that's looking out of place.

What happened to the reflections on the floor? They've disappeared.

                        heres a small update:

Sunny: Your right about the sunlight. Like I said, theres areas, particularly by the main glass that should be alot brighter, even approaching being blown out because of the bright day, will work on that. The source of the stainless reflections is the camera flash rig I would presume. Im basing this image from a photo and it has an even more pronounced hilight in the photo. (shrug)

I stated earlier I was loosing the floor reflections for the time being as they take too long to render and aren't necessary to really be there until the final render. Though Im glad I included them on this current render, as it shows me how ugly the reflections look when reflecting the background. Will have to take care on my choice of background.

There will be downlights included in the scene since they are there in the photo, but since its such a bright day, they wont add to the lighting much I would gather. Maybe Ill do a night render and see how they turn out.

Can u post the photo ypur using as a reference?

What's the GI setup? Looks like the glass is stopping
a significant amount of light as you mentioned the
area in the back is quite bright.

                          2 suggestions for now:

                          1) Turn cast shadows off on your glass.
                          2) just turn your glass off in your GI calculation
and turn it back on during render (make sure to set
it's receive and generate GI to 0.

Let's see that sun come blasting in and burn a hole in the floor.

heres a quick update with minor lighting tweaks that hopefully give better contrast. Sunny: As you can see I completely removed the glass and there was no difference. This image is only different as I adjusted the GI bounce multipliers like you suggested and moved the key light some.

The source image is from a magazine and I dont have a scanner to scan it. Much to my chagrin as I hate trying to approximate camera distance, lens, and so on. Though its the cover image in the latest magazine Home and Living Trends

Probably wont be able to mess with it much more today

That's really strange Percy. Can you post a screen capture of your light
                              settings?

We've numerous project deadlines this week too so i can setup a test file
but if you're still having trouble with it email me your file and I'll have a quick play with it.
