          Regarding the fog, I had disconnected the effects node in the world setup & also have the fog cube disabled from render. I've turned on the fog effect and updated the file for V-Ray 3.5 (removed the light portals, changed globals to "don't affect gamma," and adjusted the sun lighting.) Take a look!

            I was curious if there was any difference with the portals, so I turned them back on (turned the layer on and enabled the area lights) and turned the hemi light off. It does give a cleaner render, but the render time was basically unchanged.
