How about an early morning sun perhaps. The palm trees have a bit of a strong wind in them. Also try tonemapping it slighlty different, these look like like old faded photos.

It will help if you darken the green of the palm trees a LOT. Try BLUER sky with more pronounced clouds, instead of the hazy clouds (the type of clouds in the 1st attempt on page1 was nice). A rainbow in one of the shots could have double significance, also some white doves perhaps?

I thought about morning, however, I didn't want to mess with interior lights. I did add a warming filter, but maybe too strong. I purchased the windy trees, for the project, trying to find some way to make the scene interesting.

White balance and a smaller warming filter. I also boosted the contrast a tad. The client was thrilled with the first ones, so hopefully, he'll be even happier with these. I think they are a lot better than the first ones, but a far cry from anything good.

sorry for the slop attempt at adjusting this. some thoughts to make the images more dramatic -

- make it sparkle (adding some pings of light off the roof coping?)
- ray of light, possibly painting in some curves adjustment to make the light feel focused onto the building
- having the building be smaller in frame, with more sky and/or surrounding area to frame it and let it breathe
- darker shadows in areas that are boring (mostly to the left/right of the image)
- a lower camera, trying to remove some of that expanse of grass
- try different focal lengths? Maybe a wider angle lense that's closer up might add more dynamic angles

I also like your suggestion of putting jesus in the sky. Maybe with a vertical framing of the space.

I tried god rays, but it looked cheezy, so I abandoned the idea. The view you tweak is a little hard to understand. The parking lot, which the camera is 3' over, is 15' higher than the playground area. I had the camera on the ground and with the DOF, it looked cool but made the playground look miniature. This building is actually connecting buildings on both ends and those buildings are the same looking as this new one. I am not sure backing out, in this situation, would help. On both sides is just more of the same. One thing the architect wanted to show is the large grassy area between the new building and the parking lot. Maybe, it is, what it is. The whole lipstick on a pig thing might be going on.

The first cropped shot is much better. This one seems too focused on the playground and kids IMO. The school itself seems like a background that was dropped in place.

I would bit the bullet and render dawn or dusk lighting and illuminate the windows. The building looks lifeless right now.

This also might be one of the rare occasions where a wider angle lens is better. Push in closer to the cross area and let the bunker protion fall off in teh background.

I'll work on it. I agree that the first close up is better, so I'll try to emulate it on the second close up.

Haha, exactly. But most of the time that is because the design sucks and there's not enough to show in a detail shot. And this design sucks big time. What's wrong with some natural light in the classrooms, these windows are very small.

I am not sure why the windows are so small, other than to match the existing architecture. The whole building is not my taste, but it is what it is, I suppose.

Have you looked at minimalzine? they are on instagram. It may give you some inspiration on how to approach large flat surfaces. Think of a minimalist painting. I might look into making the white plaster surfaces something to look at by making the texture really stand out. Basically stop fighting the building design and instead go with it.

Probably good advice. The architect is kind of driving this one and I am starting to see it as more of a technical exercise for him.
