  • LIttle statue - photogrammetry model MARK 1 :-)

    HI,
Here is a little ohotogrammetry model weve used to learn the tech.
    THis is the first output...

Nice try ! does the textures also has been captured from the real object too ?
I'm planing to play with photogrammetrym but still waiting to have better camera =D

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

So, same model, but slightly reworked textures and shaders, namely NORMAL map, i got rig of it as it was useless on the hires model scan anyways.
And different lighting this time (the hands are coming out less defines in the the top down scenario)

Great little model ! Trying some photgrammerty myself and it's an amazing tech.

What's your setup ? Turntable, ringflash, lightboxes ?

Care to post a before/ after wire ? and how much poly before/ after ?

          Thanks!
Were using the workflow Bertrand Benoit described in his blog with one exception...were only using rign flash, no lights (as the bulbs we bought emit too much yellow light)
Right now we are investing into better tech in order to level up the scans quality even more. Really excited!!
So far, we are only experimenting with the original high density meshes and when we are confident enough in the texture exports, we will dig into the low poly displaced versions.
Agisofts Photoscan is amazing piece of software!!

You can often get a better result with Agisoft if you export the mesh to Max & do a better UV map as the UV mapping options in Agisoft are limited & only Automatic. Agisoft has the option to re-import the mesh & keep your user defined UV mapping co-ordinates.
            Hope this helps.

We re actually doing all the UV work in ZBrush - its much more easier than in MAX
And youre right, Agisoft UVs are a mess ) but thats understandable.
I was amazed how precise the DIffuse texture it generates is...no seams...it even handled differently exposed parts.

Do you know if RC (Reality Capture) has the ability to re-import models as well for re-projection with new UVs?
If not I'll ask to Milos

Last time I've checked, this was the biggest drawback for RC, but things may have evolved since.

I'm still not convinced by the "mosaic" mode of Photoscan, but other modes are awful. Sometimes "Average" works ok, and you can correst "mosaic" errors with some parts of the "average" map in PS

I made some tests with the "BBB3 workflow" and IMHO it could be improved, I'll make a post on my abandonned blog when I'll have the time I succesfully setup cross polarization and the results are amazing on non metallic surfaces

Also, like Bertrand said, Zbrush workflow need a whole separate post.

RC has been able to import custom uv's for a while now.

its latest updated just added fbx export, which includes cameras.

so its a lot more useful now.
