  • noise problem on animation

hi, i'm rendering this short animation with Incremental Add, every10 frame... there are so much noise on the sofa, i 1st thought it is the QMC or the AA, i bump the AA up to -2,2 which made no different, then i tried messing with the AA filter which didn't really help. could anyone give me some suggestion please. i'm greatly appreciated in advance. thank you!

0,3 is a better start for AA. bump higher if necessary. Also I think some AA filters aren't so good for anims, like catmull rom.

make sure you dont have a procedural map on the sofa. use a bitmap instead.

Use a saved imap, set to every 10-20 frames for calc.

            thx

            percydaman:
do you mean if i shouldn't lower the min AA but only bump up the max AA? i agree on the AA filters are not good for the animation. a lot of time they look great on still rendering... but when you do a camera animation, you will see all kind of problems. *sign*...

            jacksc02:
that made sense, let me work on that.

            RErender:
yea, that's what i was doing, i use every 10th. do you know if i could render the imap on the network instead of a single machine?

            reza:
that's one of the problem when i turn it into animation. i will work on that too. it's just the material setting is too low.

            Thank you everyone!

If I want to get rid of noise, then I dont go below 0 for a minimum AA. sometimes Ill even go to a 1 for the minimum. A maximum AA of 3 is usually good depending on the scene, 4 sometimes is necessary. Also using adaptive subdivision sampling when using glossy reflections is frequently not the best way to go. Adaptive QMC and sometimes even fixed rate sampling is better for removing noise in those cases. Of course you understand, I can't explain it better then how its stated in the manual. Id check it out.

                bump map only

thank you for the suggestion, percydaman. i will try that. however on this new rendering i only have a bump (bitmap) on the sofa and it still carry a lot of noise. do you know why? the couch looks boring on this with the material limitation.
