The story with this client is, he called me up wanting me to do all of his renderings. He sent me a link to his houses and I was all over it, that is until we talked about price. He was using a company out of China, so he wanted my work at the Chinese price. I told him that I can't even come close, so I'll have to pass. He kept calling and emailing and after much thinking, I decided to go with it. We decided on something that somewhat works for both of us; more for him and less for me, but they are going okay. I have already gotten work from other developers because of these houses, so I win in the end. He is very picky and comments on things that nobody in the world will ever notice or care about. Every house seems to be a failure, if I base things on his comments, but after time goes by and looking at them with new eyes, they are pretty good. You know, after 100 revisions I get the, "we are out of time, so this will have to do", email.

Anyway, on to the next!

If the client can't use those ....then they can't use anything. Sounds like a very difficult person but also sounds like you have bent over backwards to satisfy. That is what I always endeavor to do, regardless of client behavior. I am guilty of copping an attitude towards a difficult client in the past and always regretted it after the fact. Now, I try to make sure I have done everything possible to satisfy the client and avoid arguing with them. I may choose not to work with them again or raise my cost to compensate for there particular idiosyncrasies going forward.

I try to go into a zen like state where it becomes an entertaining challenge versus frustration. I know your pain.

Thanks for the kind words. I think that he knows he is difficult. He is always thanking me for my attitude towards things. I don't complain too this guy, but some of these small jobs, with small budgets, that have extremely high demands drive me crazy.

I am dealing with a small house that was supposed to be two views. The drawings were so incomplete, the house turned out totally different then it was drawn. Apparently, the developer likes to design as he goes and it became my problem. It ended up being six views and then she wanted night versions. After the job was done, the women I was working with showed it to her client and her client hated the design. They thought a night view would spice things up. So, again, I keep trying to please. I sent the night version saying that I can't do any more work without creating a new project. She refuses to pay her balance.

wow that's unreal, unfortunately there are a lot of people out there like that. with the quality of your work I wouldn't bend much at all and get a deposit to cover at least a majority of your labor. love the renders BTW.

Oh, I get a 50% deposit. It's the balance she hasn't paid and hasn't answered any emails.

Some clients are weird.. images are really nice. Good you got 50% advance.. i had encountered one such client in past who was appreciating my work throughout the time and made me work on 2 projects together but disappeared soon after i submitted hires. i was desperate to get work that time so agreed to start without advance with a new overseas client & i learned an expensive lesson that time.

With this guy, I get a flat fee for all his houses. Both big and small, it is the same with 6 views.
