  • Antiqued Gold Logo

This is a logo for a prestigious golf equipment manufacturer. Looking for critique in regards to materials / lighting. Going for a slightly antiqued gold look. The smaller image represents the approximate size the logo will actually be seen at, the larger is just to show the detail.

The client never really provides good feedback at all (looks good. I like option A. etc...) but pays well.

    Thanks!

The logo looks really good, maybe you could add a very slight reflection to the red area in the middle, it just seems a little flat compared to the rest of the crest.

    Nice modelling too

Thanks for the tip Chris. I ran it by the client and they thought they'd like the red to be a velvet material. Not sure how clear that's going to turn out, but I'll give it a shot.

Not really a crit but an observation, but the logo looks slightly rotated. just by the smallest amount but it really nags at me.

not sure what you mean, I pulled PS guides onto the image and the edge of the "P" is perfectly vertical and the top and bottom rings are perfectly horizontal... maybe your desk is starting to tip?

look at the little cap-like feature above the P, its deffinately not level

              :

Am I just crazy? I think maybe the off-balance reflection is making the geometry look unbalanced... because to me, at least, this looks straight and even.

its straight, I think there is a dark reflection on the caps, that give the impression that it is tilted.

I think your gold looks a little plastic. Are you using the Ward shader in the VRayMtl and some form of falloff for the reflections? If not try it out and set the falloff to Fresnel with a high IOR of 8-12 or something.

Good observation, I started this project with fresnel and ward, but could never get the color right. Here's a quick sample. If I make the base color more yellow, I loose all the depth and it looks washed out.

*EDIT* Nevermind that, I'm an idiot sometimes, I figured it out, here's a comparison of what it looks like. :P

The first is ward, fresnel, ior 8.

I think I like the right hand better I'm a little confused to which is which, when you say first do you mean left to right or original to new :P

haha. The first image was the left hand one, with the fresnel and ward, etc. Perhaps my plastic look comes more from reflection and lighting settings. Thanks for the input!

Lighting looks good. When I say plastic I guess I should have specified like a plastic toy gold medallion where it's coated in a gold foil or something. It's probably the bump and there's just not that haziness that gold has. Just seems too reflective.
